Maths

At Brampton Primary Academy, we aim to ensure that all children develop a deep understanding and a love of mathematics. Our pupils of all ages work towards acquiring a secure and adaptable understanding of the subject through our approach to the teaching three stands: fluency, application and mastery.  We ensure that children have a full understanding of mathematical concepts, methods, and relationships between the different areas of maths, such as division, multiplication, decimal numbers and fractions.

It is important that children can recall key facts in maths, as this will allow them to more efficiently solve problems. To help with this, we provide daily short sessions that focus on key number facts (KS1) and times table facts (KS2). We follow the White Rose curriculum, which breaks down learning into smaller steps in order for the children to grasp the concepts taught.

We aim for all pupils to:

· become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics so that they develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.

· be able to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication, including in unfamiliar contexts and to real-life scenarios.

· reason mathematically by following a line of inquiry and develop and present a justification, argument or proof using mathematical language.
