From Friction to Fun: Year 2's Forest School Slide Project
Mon 02 Dec 2024This term, our Year 2 children are participating in Forest School. In Friday’s session, the children embarked on a child-led project to construct a slide using a platform and wooden planks, showcasing their teamwork and ingenuity.
They began by gathering materials and then constructing a sturdy platform before carefully positioning wooden planks to create their slide. The children quickly realised that the slide wasn't as slippery as they had hoped: the wooden planks provided too much friction, preventing them from sliding down smoothly. Rather than being discouraged, they saw this as a problem-solving opportunity. After some brainstorming, one of the children suggested pouring water on the slide to make it more slippery. With the teachers' supervision, the children fetched water and carefully poured it onto the wooden planks. The slide became much more slippery!
This week’s experience highlighted the importance of outdoor learning and its role in fostering creativity, resilience, and practical skills in young children. The Year 2 children not only built a slide but also learned the value of perseverance and innovation.

Mon 02 Dec 2024Young Voices is renowned for organising the largest children's choir concerts in the world. Each year, the organisation brings together school choirs to perform in some of the UK's most iconic venues, including the O2 Arena in London. The aim is to inspire a love of music and singing in children, while also providing them with the opportunity to perform in front of large audiences. The concerts are a celebration of music, featuring a diverse repertoire of music, accompanied by professional musicians and special guest artists.
At Brampton, the children involved are eagerly rehearsing for the upcoming Young Voices concert in February, under the guidance of Brampton's music specialist Miss Young. This concert's set list includes a medley of 90s dance tracks (which the adults are very excited about) and a moving song called 'Little Blue', accompanied by sign language, which the children have been working hard to learn.

Santa's Elves Cause Chaos at Brampton Primary Academy
Mon 02 Dec 2024During the festive fun at Brampton Primary Academy’s Christmas fair, Santa Claus took a brief nap, giving some of his playful elves the perfect opportunity to escape the grotto and enjoy a ride on the Polar Express!
The school has since received an email from Santa, who has safely returned to the North Pole. He believes the escapee elves didn’t board his sleigh and are still hiding somewhere in the school. Unfortunately, with December now upon us, Santa is too busy preparing for Christmas to return and collect them. He plans to pick them up when he’s in the area on the 25th!
Santa has warned school leaders that these elves are very mischievous, so the whole school community will need to keep an eye out for any chaos they might cause. Children are encouraged to report any trouble to their teacher immediately.
Be prepared, everyone—we don’t know what these playful elves are capable of!

The fair featured a wide array of stalls and games, offering something for everyone. From handmade crafts and delicious treats to exciting games and raffles, there was no shortage of activities to enjoy. One of the standout attractions was the enchanting Polar Express train ride, which delighted children and adults alike as it wound its way across the infant playground. The journey culminated at Santa's Grotto, where excited children had the chance to meet Santa Claus himself. Each child received a small gift and had the opportunity to share their Christmas wishes, making for a truly magical experience.
